Waltz of the Wildflowers

Softly plays the breeze
across stems
Petals dance in ecstasy
at its caress
Nodding heads
bow to each other
In perfectly choreographed
unison
As nature's ballroom
hosts
The waltz of the wildflowers

Nature's Dress

Butterfly alights upon a leaf
Wings moving in the breeze
Making me forget myself
And putting my mind at ease

So delicate and beautiful
A gift of nature so sweet
A dash of colour amongst the green
Nature's palette replete

Serenity embraces me
I feel its sweet caress
The utter perfection of all things
Is revealed in nature's dress

A Winter View

Outside my window
    a blanket of white
Glistening softly
    on this moonlit night

Wrapping the world
    in an icy embrace
And embroidering trees
    with delicate lace

Softening the shape
    of the landscape below
An endless sea
    of undulating snow

The world outside
    is held in its thrall
A frozen still life
    until spring comes to call

Flexibility (Pantoum)

Trees that bend with the wind don't fall
They stay young and forever green
Shaped by the wind as they grow tall
Becoming gnarled and serene

They stay young and forever green
Never hardening into rigidity
Becoming gnarled and serene
Able to move with fluidity

Never hardening into rigidity
They are not broken by storms
Able to move with fluidity
Assuming marvellous forms

They are not broken by storms
They keep reaching for the sky
Assuming marvellous forms
Fully branched when they die

They keep reaching for the sky
Shaped by the wind as they grow tall
Fully branched when they die
Trees that bend with the wind don't fall

Autumn Leaves (Pantoum)

Leaves falling to the ground
Scarlet, copper and gold
Floating down without a sound
The air is growing cold

Scarlet, copper and gold
Leaves crunch beneath my feet
The air is growing cold
Smelling oh so sweet

Leaves crunch beneath my feet
Their colours everywhere
Smelling oh so sweet
Crisp pure autumn air

Their colours everywhere
Floating down without a sound
Crisp pure autumn air
Leaves falling to the ground

Sunrise (Cinquain)

Soft pink
paints downy clouds
that trail across the sky,
aglow with the promise of a
new day.

Sunset
(Cinquain)

Dusk sky:
warm tapestry
woven by nature's hand.
Each glowing strand exquisitely
entwined.

The Reawakening

Bare branches coyly hide
amongst a soft fresh cloak of green
As trees cover up the starkness
of the winter they've just seen

Spears of daffodils pierce the earth
emerging straight and true
Stretching tall after their sleep
to join in this new view

Blossom trees drape their limbs
with soft ethereal lace
The earth, feeling her lover's warmth,
is making up her face

A flush of radiant colour
now adorns the earth
As the labour pains of winter
give way to lush spring birth

Mother Earth (Double Cinquain)

Her eyes
sore and stinging,
filled with deadly toxins
produced by those that she nurtures,
she weeps.

Sad tears
of acid rain
streaking her lovely face,
she valiantly strives to keep on
giving.

Minuet (Double Cinquain)

Cold winds
play a new tune -
daffodils lift their heads
and attire themselves in frilly
wide skirts.

Blossoms
clothe bare branches
in pure white lacy gowns -
heralding the start of the next
spring waltz.
