Song Of The Waterfall

High up in the mountains where the air is fresh and cool
There's a bubbling spring that flows into a deep awaiting pool
It's here the waters start upon their journey clear and long
And thus begins the melody of a wondrous nature song

You can watch the pooling water as it starts its slow cascade
And moves into a flowing stream that melting snow has made
A little further down the way if you care to take a look
The stream is joined by the waters of a gently flowing brook

It's here the stream and brook combine to generously deliver
Their gifts of pure clean water to a clearly flowing river
The waters of the river move serene and calm at first
Allowing many animals to come and quench their thirst

The water quickly picks up speed as on its way it goes
And you can hear it start to sing as o'er the rocks it flows
The water swiftly flows out to a tall and rocky ledge
And turns into an amazing sight as it tumbles o'er the edge

A beautiful misty rainbow is formed by its falling flight
And to see the dancing water is a most impressive sight
You can hear its soft sweet music as it tumbles right along
And it sings a beautiful chorus of the waters falling song

Winter's Spell

When Winter drapes her icy arms around the land so tight
She covers all the countryside with her blanket snowy white
Hills and valleys all are held within her frozen grip
White topped houses rest beneath her icy fingertip

Snow capped mountains watch her paint her frozen wonderland
And only heated chimney tops escape her icy hand
I stand next to the fireside to feel its warming glow
And watch outside as Winter drops her ever whitening snow

As she prepares her bed of ice and fills it with her sleet
The world will peek from underneath her white and snowy sheet
And then as Winter slowly wakes and moves on with a grin
The whitened countryside will wait to see her once again

The Ride Of The Ice Queen

The Ice Queen comes a riding on her steed of ice and snow
And casts her icy frozen net upon the ground below
The beauty of her features hides the ice within her chest
Her sparkling silver necklace hangs above her snowy breast

The hoof beats of her frigid mount freeze waters as they go
Lakes and ponds grow solid and the rivers cease to flow
Only fires stoked bright and hot can sway her icy hand
As she paints her snowy portrait on the canvass of the land

The countryside's held helpless in her icy frozen grip
And everything is frozen still as she passes on her trip
Her arctic beauty holds the earth in wondrous snowy awe
And once she's gone the frigid land begins to slowly thaw

The land begins to green again as farther on she rides
And waters start to flow again as her frigidness subsides
Warmth and beauty fill the land and the fires cease to burn
As the land awaits the winter when the Ice Queen will return

Softly Comes The Night

As the fading sun begins its slow descent into the west
Night begins to fall and it's the time I like the best
As nighttime cloaks the earth within its ebony embrace
The earth is slowly turned into a wondrous mystic place

Stars begin to twinkle in the ever darkening skies
And the land is softly lit with brightly glowing fireflies
The timid little creatures that always shun the light of day
Come forth within the dark of night to frolic and to play

The chirping of the crickets and the hooting of the owl
Seem to play in harmony with the coyote's mournful howl
This lonely song is only heard until the morning's light
And then prepares to start again as softly comes the night

Twilight On The Prairie

When twilight time begins to fall upon the open range
The prairie land begins to undertake a lovely change
As evening sunlight paints a purple glow across the sky
The soft wind starts to sing a tender prairie lullaby

As the tired daytime creatures start to settle in their beds
Its time to play for all the little prairie sleepy heads
They venture forth at twilight time to frolic and to play
And scavenge for their dinner as the night replaces day

In the quiet of the evening you can hear the coyote's call
They sing their melancholy song as night begins to fall
The prairie dogs will scamper and the owls will all take flight
To search for any movement in the stillness of the night

The tumbleweeds roll softly pushed about upon the breeze
And rabbits quickly skip among the prairie brush with ease
They know the bobcat's hunting and they are very wary
They must flee so they can see another twilight on the prairie

A Summer Breeze

When the mercury starts climbing up into the high degrees
A gentle breath of freshness is the flowing of a breeze
That cools the sweaty brow and relieves the burning heat
Rising from the sidewalks and the asphalt of the street

The gentle breeze moves silently upon its cooling trip
To free the dry and arid land from summer's fiery grip
It moves across the water causing ripples as it goes
Then reaches open windows and gently through them flows

As it continues on its journey o'er the rooftops it will pass
Bending back the treetops and rustling through the grass
When its mission's finally over it will gently fade away
And wait until it's called again on another summer day

Master Of The Pride

Deep out in the grasslands you may see a glimpse of fur
Keep watching as it swiftly turns into a golden blur
As the lioness pursues her prey others join the chase
And what was once a care free day becomes a deadly race

The kill is quick and viscious for the poor unlucky beast
And now the king will come to share the bounty of the feast
Across the wide savannah for as far as you can see
This land is his and he will always guard it fearlessly

His golden eyes see everything as he licks his tufted paws
All other creatures flee in fear of the fierceness of his claws
His noble mane is flowing, there's no fear within his stride
For he's within his kingdom and he's the master of the pride

Spring Rain

When clouds begin to gather in the stormy skies each spring
The flowers raise their thirsty mouths to the cooling rain they bring
Then countless falling water droplets shower from the skies
As Mother Nature wipes the teardrops gently from her eyes

The rhythm of the raindrops as they splash upon the ground
Brings a calming magic feeling with their soft and soothing sound
There's nothing quite as beautiful as a gentle falling rain
That plays a tender love song on a glassy window pane

And once the mellow music of the skies have ceased to play
Springtime freshness fills the air as the rain moves on its way
And as a final loving gesture to the skies that gave them birth
The water droplets shine to form a rainbow o'er the earth

A Caterpillar's Dream

Fuzzy little caterpillar climbing up a flower stem
You watch the lovely butterflies and long to be like them
As they softly glide beside you on wings with colors bright
You dream of what it would be like to drift away in flight

You crawl up on a bush to find a limb that's stout it seems
And you begin to spin a silk cocoon of caterpillar's dreams
When you finally awaken from your winter nap in spring
Something strange has happened and it's a wondrous thing

A beautiful fleck of color rises lightly on the breeze
Then it settles on a blossom just as softly as you please
It drifts from flower to flower before rising into the sky
You're not a caterpillar now but a beautiful butterfly

Misty Harbor

There's a quiet little seaport in a town that's very near
Where I like to go to contemplate while sitting on the pier
In summer when the sun is warm, I watch the boats go out
I've come to know the seamen and they always give a shout

The people of this harbor town are quick to give a smile
Their old town charm and pleasantry can easily beguile
I like to stroll around the town and visit the small café
The waitress takes my order without hassle or delay

At evening time out on the pier I watch the boats return
The water softly sparkles from the running lights that burn
It amazes this old country boy to see the evening catch
As they lift the daily bounty through the open cargo hatch

But I especially like to visit in the autumn of the year
To me that's when the magic of this place starts to appear
The fog rises from the water like a vine upon an arbor
And gives a truly ethereal look to this beautiful misty harbor

Summer Storm

As the summer sun burns brightly o'er the waters of the land
It reaches down to draw a drink with its hot and arid hand
As it draws the cooling water from the lakes and flowing streams
A tiny trickle escapes its lips and then very quickly steams

The steam then rolls into the skies, a billowing cloud to form
And Mother Nature then gives birth to a summer thunder storm
The skies begin to darken as the storm clouds start to build
And they keep on taking moisture 'til they're finally overfilled

The thunder then starts shouting and the clouds begin to cry
And their teardrops begin falling and fill up the stormy sky
The rain falls down in a steady stream over all the land below
As lightning fills the heavens with its electrifying glow

All the trees and flowers seek to quench their parching thirst
As they take a deep refreshing drink of the overhead cloud burst
When the clouds have finished crying the sun comes peeking through
And the gentle winds push the clouds away to reveal a sky of blue

Apple Blossom Time

As the icy cold of winter gives way to days of spring
The trees begin to blossom and the birds all start to sing
And so begins a very lovely special time of year
When nature sings the sweetest song that you will ever hear

Out among the apple trees as the buds begin to bloom
The fragrance of the orchard fills the air with sweet perfume
I listen to the soft and gentle buzzing of the bees
As they dart from flower to flower in the branches of the trees

As the sun peeks through the tree tops on a warm and sunny day
I'll find a cool and shady spot where I can go and lay
And daydream to my heart's content throughout the day so long
While listening to a chorus of the apple blossom song

As the fragrance of the blossom petals softly fill the air
The chances are you'll find me dreaming lazily out there
Somewhere in the apple orchard feeling quite sublime
In the coolness of the evening at apple blossom time

Valley Of The Sun

As the sun begins to waken in the morning with a yawn
It stretches out its golden arms in a glorious shining dawn
Underneath southwestern skies there lies a peaceful place
Where nature still is undisturbed in all her wondrous grace

There's a valley there beside a lake so peaceful and serene
Where flowers grow with deeper hues than you have ever seen
Animals are plentiful where the clear cool waters run
And the native people there call it the valley of the sun

The otters frolic playfully before they stop and look
For fish and other things to eat in the waters of a brook
Antelope and deer are found in overwhelming numbers
And on a sunny ledge a lazy mountain lion slumbers

But the most unique of all the sights within this place to see
Is the herd of wild mustangs that still are roaming free
They graze among the grass witout a worry or a care
Until the lead horse smells the scent of danger in the air

The herd then moves in unison while racing with the wind
Across the valley floor they fly until they reach the end
You can hear their pounding hoof beats as majestically they run
Across the golden grasslands through the valley of the sun

Sunrise On The Meadow

When dawn begins to waken o'er the meadows deep and green
She spreads her morning magic on the air so sweet and clean
The golden rays of sunlight play across the morning dew
And make the tiny droplets shine with a multi colored hue

The morning mist begins to rise as sunlight warms the earth
And the meadow starts to come alive with early morning mirth
A gentle breeze blows soft and cool and rustles through the trees
And the clover shares it's sweetness with the busy honey bees

The wildflowers of the meadow hold out their soft green arms
And open up their blossoms to reveal their lovely charms
The meadow lark sings love songs in the grasses long and tall
And his playmates join in chorus as they answer to his call

Primrose grow in numbers by the meadow's wooden fence
Where the veronica softly winds its vines so thickly and so dense
The willows seem to bow in prayer by a gently flowing stream
Where a nature lover such as I can come to sit and dream

A new and wondrous day's begun for all the meadows creatures
And Mother Nature watches with a smile upon her features
Her laughter floats upon the air and the sunlight fills her eyes
As heaven paints the meadow with a glowing new sunrise

A Solitary Rose

A brilliant blaze of crimson on a velvet tapestry
Shares its wondrous beauty for the entire world to see
Each petal like the others and yet not quite the same
Its sweet aroma helps to give the gentle rose its name

Of all of nature's flowers spread upon the world to see
None of them can match the rose's beautiful imagery
When young men pick a sweet bouquet of budding floral art
Most likely it's the sacred rose they'll choose to win a heart

And in the starlit garden in the stillness of the night
It's moonlight on the roses making memories so bright
The petals of a lovely rose are soft and tender things
And that's why they were chosen to line the paths of kings

In all its brilliant glory the rose stands out alone
To rule o'er all the garden flowers upon its arbor throne
No other flower can quite compare no matter where it grows
To the pure and simple beauty of a solitary rose

The Laughing Brook

When I was young I used to wake and get up at sunrise
To watch the misty morning fog on the meadow start to rise
One day off in the distance I heard a happy mirth filled sound
But oddly it seemed to be coming from somewhere in the ground

I ran out through the meadow so opulent and green
And noticed a little bubbling brook that I had never seen
It's clear and sparkling waters made the sound that I was after
Flowing across the rocks they filled the morning air with laughter

Why are you so happy? I quizzed the waters with a smile
The shining water smiled right back and said, come sit awhile
So I sat beside the little stream and listened while it told
Of the sights that it had seen upon its journey bright and bold

How can I not be happy? the flowing waters said to me
If you had seen the things I have then quickly you would see
My waters started flowing from a spring deep in the earth
High up in those mountains there is where I was given birth

I traveled down the mountain through the timberland so tall
There were many thirsty animals so I gave a drink to all
And then I saw a little mill on further down the way
So I turned its big old water wheel so you'd have bread today

And over those hills that you can see and past the woods beyond
I traveled through some pasture land and filled a little pond
The cattle there were grateful and I continued on my way
Past a little cottage where I watched some children play

The older boys had taken wood and each had built a boat
They made sport of the smallest boy saying his would never float
So I lifted up his tiny boat and you should have seen him smile
When I tipped the other boats over and left them in a pile

As I traveled on along my way I saw some fishermen
My waters took their lures to fish so they could reel them in
Passing through a little town the children came to swim
My cooling water made the day a joyous time for them

And after I have left you here my work has just begun
For I will help to fill a lake that gives water to everyone
That is why I laugh so much my young and curious friend
The good Lord's blessed my waters from beginning to the end

With that the brook went on its way, laughing as it flowed
Content within its purpose carrying a life sustaining load
Bringing a gift of water to all creatures there in need
Happily day after day performing its good deed

I still remember to this day that lesson that I learned
That the greatest joys you get in life are given and not earned
And I'm extremely grateful for the delightful time I took
Spent listening to the wondrous tale of the little laughing brook

The Calling Of The Sea

When the moonlight on the water sparkles beautiful and bright
On a clear warm summer evening underneath a starlit night
Across the dark deep waters I can hear her speak to me
A soft and mellow whisper is the calling of the sea

She blows her cool and salty breath lightly through my hair
Her waters move so gracefully she captivates me there
She wraps me sweet and softly in her golden arms of sand
And reaches out her white capped waves to take me by the hand

A dark seductive beauty that draws every sailor home
They hear her love song calling from wherever they may roam
No seaman can resist her charms so beautiful and pure
And many are the men who fall in love with her allure

As I stand here close beside her and watch her waters foam
I know that I am at the place that always will be home
She knows that she can find me no matter where I'll be
And I always will be drawn here by the calling of the sea

Song Of The Sea

When I sit beside the waters of the softly whispering sea
I listen to the music of the song it sings to me
A rhapsody of heaven played upon the golden shore
Fills my soul with gentle bliss and makes me long for more

The sandy beach along this place is peaceful and serene
And you can walk for miles and not another soul is seen
The sunlight does a sparkling waltz on the water clear and bright
Then slowly spreads an orange glow as daytime turns to night

When night falls on the water it's a magical place to be
As the stars shine on the stillness of the calm and gentle sea
It's then the ocean sings a soothing bedtime lullaby
As the moon casts its reflection on the water from the sky

And if you stay there long enough to watch a new sunrise
You can watch as nature paints a scene before your very eyes
As the sun begins to rise over the ocean deep and blue
It softly fills the waters with a warm and golden hue

And as the waves awaken to a new and glorious dawn
The shore reaches gently out to greet them with a yawn
And the water starts to sing a new and charming melody
That fills the air with magic from the singing of the sea

Sunset On The Lake

Whenever I feel the need to think and spend some time alone
I go out by a lake I know where the reeds are overgrown
Theres a spot there down a lonely path beside the wooded shore
Where Mother Nature walks with me while her wonders I explore

I can watch a flock of seagulls as they soar in circled flight
Or watch the sparkling water dance in the early morning light
I can listen as the gentle wind blows softly through the reeds
And watch as a crane wades slowly down the shoreline as it feeds

The gentle lapping of the waves sings a soothing lullaby
As I lie next to the water gazing up into the sky
In the evening as the sun goes down I'll take a little stroll
And watch as the fish swirl water in a sandy inlet shoal

There's a rocky point that juts out from that inlet hideaway
Where I can watch the sunlight on the water start to play
The peacefulness that's painted there lets my joyful heart partake
In a tranquil scene of beauty as the sun sets on the lake

Shooting Star

From far across the dark of space
You start your long celestial race
I think about the sights you'll see
As you travel across the galaxy

Past constellations deep and bright
You float amidst the clear starlight
Drifting along the Milky Way
Watching the shining moonbeams play

Traveling beyond the distant stars
Past Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars
While I am here and sound asleep
You're moving on through space so deep

Until you reach the planet earth
Far from the realm that gave you birth
Your trip will soon be enlyding here
As you fall into the atmosphere

A streak of light across night sky
You burn so bright then quickly die
How is it that you've come so far
Oh brightly shining shooting star?

Firefly

Softly glowing there so bright
Oh little firefly of night
Lightly floating through the trees
On the gentle summer breeze

Your light puts out a mellow glow
As through the nighttime air you go
Up against the darkened sky
I watch your flashing light go by

The sky's a wonderland delight
As all your tiny friends take flight
And fill the air like magic lanterns
Flying about in graceful patterns

The meadows seem to come alive
With all the lights that dip and dive
Like tiny shooting stars you go
Back and forth and to and fro'

How I'd like to join you there
As you fly about within the air
Soaring high and worry free
That is where I long to be

Someday I'll fly away with you
Across the early morning dew
'Til then I'll watch your glowing light
Oh little firefly of night

Cottage In The Pines

Nestled deep within the woods 'neath pine trees strong and tall
There's an opening within the woods where sits a cottage small
The woodland air is fresh and clean and wonderful to smell
And cool and sparkling water comes from deep within a well

There's a sunny spot upon some rocks where you can sit and look
At the tiny woodland creatures play beside a babbling brook
In winter time a fire burns bright within the cottage hearth
And through the windows you can see the snow cover the earth

The cottage has a special place with a loft covered with tin
Where you can go for solitude and watch the dawn come in
In springtime on a rainy day within the woods so deep
The raindrops on the metal roof will lull you off to sleep

The wild flowers around the cottage begin to bloom in spring
And you can sit upon the porch and smell them from the swing
It's a place of awesome beauty and I hope everybody finds
A place as warm and wonderful as my cottage in the pines

Cottage By The Sea

Secluded in a sheltered cove beside the foamy seas
A tiny cottage sits alone beneath the swaying trees
The house itself is nothing that would make a person stare
It's wooden walls are painted white, the landscape very bare

The roofing thatch is neatly trimmed with stalks of cut bamboo
And it plays host to nature's most amazing ocean view
It's here I come to find comfort from all of life's travails
I can stroll along the sandy beach or climb the rocky trails

I sit out on the open porch and breathe the salty air
And feel the gentle ocean breeze pass softly through my hair
At night I stand and listen at the open cottage door
And I can hear the pounding surf and the angry ocean's roar

The view beyond the cottage covers miles of golden sand
And the gently swaying palm trees form a tropic wonderland
There's not another place on earth that I would rather be
Than sitting here upon the porch of my cottage by the sea
